2019 Ford Expedition: A Full-Size SUV with Serious Capability and Upscale Options

Drivers near Charlevoix and East Jordan, MI know what they want in a full-size SUV. Capability, power, space, and utility tend to be the priority. The spacious comfort associated with the segment is a welcome bonus. And few new models exemplify the benefits of a large SUV like the 2019 Ford Expedition.

The new Expedition tops out the Ford SUV lineup with the best capability, most interior space, and largest overall size. Reintroduced in 2018, the modern Expedition is the culmination of everything Ford has learned in designing quality SUVs over the years.

What's New for 2019?

The current generation of Expedition was introduced in 2018, so not much is different for the 2019 model year. However, there is a new appearance package to consider. The new Expedition Stealth Edition package provides gloss black trim pieces across the exterior along with black wheels and red stitching on the inside.

Performance

Performance and capability are where the new Expedition really gets to shine. That's thanks in large part to a standard EcoBoost V6 engine. The 3.5-liter turbocharged engine is good for 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. And that means much more than just potent acceleration.

With the Heavy-Duty Trailer Tow package, the Expedition can tow up to 9,300 pounds. That's nearly as much as a full-size truck can tow. The Expedition also offers a standard ten-speed SelectShift automatic transmission, AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control, and Blind Spot Information System. Together, these features make trailering a breeze.

If you want to take your Expedition off road, it's worth looking into the available FX4 Off-Road package. This available package adds premium off-road shocks, standard four-wheel drive, a locking rear differential, all-terrain tires, and more. You'll be prepared for mud, snow, and more.

Technology

SYNC 3: A center touchscreen display is your access point to SYNC 3, Ford's infotainment system. Access navigation, music, and more through this interface.

WiFi Hotspot: Opt into the available SYNC Connect feature and you can turn your Expedition into a mobile hotspot. Optional 4G LTE WiFi connectivity means you can surf the internet while cruising.

Driver Assistance: Available driver assist features include Blind Spot Information System with cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and more.

Interior Features

The new Expedition has a spacious, comfortable, and practical cabin. It notably offers seating for up to eight passengers. Each passenger will be surrounded by high-quality materials like leather and available wood trim. Fifteen cupholders and six USB charging ports make sure passengers throughout the cabin have the amenities they need. If you're carrying equipment and supplies rather than passengers, you can fold down the rear seats and use up to 104.6 cubic feet of cargo space. The Expedition MAX adds an additional 16.9 cubic feet of cargo space.

Safety

A range of safety features come standard on the 2019 Expedition. A rear-view camera with backup assist grid makes it easier to navigate the large vehicle. Dual-stage front airbags and side-impact airbags provide extra protection in the event of a collision. An SOS post-crash alert system can contact first responders near Boyne City or Bellaire, MI after a collision.
